Southdown Sport!

At Southdown CP, we love sports! We provide a range of different extra-curricular clubs through out the school year. All of our sports clubs are free to access and children of all abilities are able to participate.

At Southdown, we provide our children with opportunities to take part in the Dragon Sport Programme which is delivered by Aura Sports Development. This includes taking part in the daily mile, playground leaders sessions, after school clubs and county-wide festivals.

We work hard to develop links with local clubs and national governing bodies, providing opportunities for our children to become 'healthy and confident' individuals.

Keep an eye on our Twitter account to see what we've been up to across the school! @SouthdownCP

We were lucky enough to welcome Professional Boxer Isaac Chamberlain to meet our children. Isaac delivered an inspirational talk for our children and signed over 300 autographs!

We also welcomed Professional Footballer Blaine Hudson from the Welsh Premier League Champions The New Saints. Blaine and Stewart Bloor (TNS Media Officer) interviewed some of our children and took the Welsh Cup trophy around our KS2 classes! An exciting day for all involved!

Sports Week 2018

At Southdown CP, we celebrate the importance of sport and physical activity through our Southdown School Sport Week. We invite a wide variety of local sports clubs to work with our children during the Summer Term. Some of the exciting activities included Golf, Squash, Martial Arts and Hockey.

As part of Sport's Week, We were lucky enough to welcome Welsh Commonwealth Games Boxer Billy Jones into School. Billy represented Team Wales at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in Australia.

Billy delivered two boxing sessions for the children in Year 3, with every child developing new skills!  Billy also took the time to meet all of the children in KS2, signing autographs and taking photos. Even Miss Owen Jones and Mr Jones wanted a picture!

The 2019 Southdown School Sports Week will be our third annual event.

The Welsh

National Football Team!

During the 2018 Southdown School Sports Week, the children were given the opportunity to watch the Wales National Football Team train at the Racecourse Stadium. The children were inspired watching the likes of Aaron Ramsay, Ashley Williams, Joe Ledley and Ryan Hedges show of their skills! The children and staff had a fantastic day and even managed to meet some of the players.
