Summer Term Topic 2021 - The Healthy Human Body

This term our topic with be the Healthy Human Body and Sport. As part of our topic, we will also be learning about the Toyko 2021 Olympics. We can't wait to explore different cultures and learn how our bodies work.

Summer Term - Physical Education:

This term, our PE day is Thursday. Please make sure that your child comes to School in their PE kit, as well as appropriate footwear for the School yard. This term our focus is Athletics. We will be following the Flintshire Dragon Sport Scheme in order to develop key skills including jumping, running, and throwing.

Daily Mile:

In Year 3, the children will enjoy taking part in the 10 minute mile. Each afternoon, the children are given the opportunity to run as far as they can in a 10 minute period, with the target being a mile. Lots of fun in a non competitive environment!

Reading: It is important that the children read regularly at home as this supports their learning across the curriculum. When reading with your child, please upload a photograph of the book to Seesaw, listing the page numbers that your child has read along with a short comment. The children will earn a dojo point for every read they complete at home.

Reading Bug Challenge: The children also have a ‘Reading Bug’ Challenge to complete.

There are four Reading Bugs to complete in Year 3. Once your child has completed a challenge sheet, they will receive their own ‘Reading Bug’ to take home.

Each child will be given a challenge sheet which lists a range of different reading challenges. Some of the fun challenges include:

  • Reading a fairy tale
  • Reading with a torch in the dark
  • Reading information on a cereal packet
  • Reading a topic specific
  • Reading in a silly voice

Once your child has completed a reading challenge, please tick the challenge off and upload a picture to Seesaw. We would also love to see some photographs of the children taking part in the challenges.

TT Rockstars: TT Rockstars is a fantastic resource that allows children to practise their times tables. They can earn points and play against their friends. Your child should have received their username and password from their Class Teacher. Here is the link to our School log in:

Flipped Learning: Once or twice a half term we will ask you to watch a short clip or read some information about a topic in school. This gives your child a head start in class as they will already have some understanding about what we are learning about. We will post tasks on ClassDojo and Seesaw.

Class Dojo:

ClassDojo is a website that we use in a variety of ways. You can access it online or by downloading an app. Each child has their own avatar and they earn points for different things e.g. working hard, reading at home, good manners etc.I

We post information for parents of our individual classes as a Class Story. We can also send individual messages to parents if we need to send a quick reminder or message about something.

Periods of Self-isolation:

If your child needs to self-isolate, work will be posted to Seesaw. Please encourage them to complete this as it will keep them in the loop for their return to school. We will be setting a range of Maths, Language and topic based activities.
