Autumn Term Topic 2022 - 'All About Me'
What have we been up to?
Take a look at some of our fantastic work:
Creating a timeline of Welsh History:
Woodland Wednesday:
In Year 3, we love learning outdoors! Every Wednesday afternoon we will be enjoying our 'Woodland Wednesdays' where the children will have the opportunity to develop their key skills through the outdoor environment. Through our outdoor learning, we aim for the children to develop into:
'Ethical and informed Citizens'
'Healthy and Confident Individuals'
'Ambitious and Capable Learners'
'Enterprising and Creative Contributors'
Physical Education:
This term, our PE day is Tuesday and Thursday. Please make sure that your child comes to School in their PE kit, as well as appropriate footwear for the School yard. This term our focus is Football and Circuit Training.
Tuesday - Mr Jones' class (football)
Tuesday - Miss Say's class (circuit training)
Thursday - Mr Jones class (circuit training with Miss Say)
Thursday - Miss Say's class (football with Mr Jones)
Daily Mile:
In Year 3, the children will enjoy taking part in the 10 minute mile. Each afternoon, the children are given the opportunity to run as far as they can in a 10 minute period, with the target being a mile.
Our children have enjoyed trying to beat their personal best this term. We are developing into 'healthy and confident' individuals.
Reading:
It is important that the children read regularly at home as this supports their learning across the curriculum. When reading with your child, please write a short comment in your child's reading record along with the page numbers read.
The children will earn a dojo point for every read they complete at home, as well as receiving a stamp on their 'Reading Around the World Passport'. The more the children read, the more certificates they will collect!
'Reading Bug' Challenge:
The children also have a ‘Reading Bug’ Challenge to complete. There are four Reading Bugs to complete in Year 3/4. Once your child has completed a challenge sheet, they will receive their own ‘Reading Bug’ to take home.
Each child will be given a challenge sheet which lists a range of different reading challenges. Some of the fun challenges include:
Once your child has completed a reading challenge, please tick the challenge off and send the Reading Record in to your class Teacher. We would also love to see some photographs of the children taking part in the challenges on Seesaw! :)
Spellings:
Each week the children are given new spellings to practise at home. We kindly ask that your child returns their spelling homework to their group leader by the following Monday. Alternatively, a picture of the completed spelling sheet can be uploaded to Seesaw into the 'Language, Literacy and Communication' folder.
TT Rockstars:
TT Rockstars is a fantastic resource that allows children to practise their times tables. They can earn points and play against their friends.
Your child should have received their username and password from their Class Teacher. Your child can find their TT Rockstars details as well as their HWB log in details in their Reading Record.
Here is the link to our School log in: https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student/80442
Class Dojo:
ClassDojo is a website that we use in a variety of ways. You can access it online or by downloading an app. Each child has their own avatar and they earn points for different things e.g. working hard, reading at home, good manners etc.
We post information for parents of our individual classes as a Class Story. We can also send individual messages to parents if we need to send a quick reminder or message about something.
For the most up to date pictures and information from Year 3, please remember to check your Class Dojo app.
Periods of Self-isolation:
If your child needs to self-isolate, work will be posted to Seesaw. Please encourage them to complete this as it will keep them in the loop for their return to school. We will be setting a range of Maths, Language and topic based activities.
Please see below a list of useful apps to support your child's learning:
