Our first priority is to make all children feel happy and secure in school so that they can become successful learners. Every child will be given opportunities and support to develop their skills and interests at their own level. In Nursery we work hard to foster curiosity, determination and a love of learning which will provide your child with a firm foundation for their future education and a positive start to their school life.
Learning Through Play
Play is an important part of your child's development and learning. We will provide many opportunities for exciting and interesting play and will support them and guide them as they learn. When they tell you that they have been digging in soil, pouring water, mixing paint with their hands, exploring rainbow jelly and writing in shaving foam, remember that they are also learning to solve problems, finding out how things work, practising the language of maths and science, developing pencil control and learning to play co-operatively with their friends.
Take a moment to watch our slideshow of photographs showing how we develop skills across the curriculum.
For part of the session each day, children will be able to choose to learn indoors or out. They will have access to all areas of the curriculum outside so that children who prefer to learn and play outdoors will have equal access to writing, number, construction, role play, sand and water as those who prefer to be indoors. We find that most children do both.
As well as the Nursery playground we also learn outdoors in the school garden and in the woods.
School uniform is not compulsory in our Nursery, however we find that most parents choose to send their children in uniform because it makes them feel part of the school. Uniform is available to purchase from the school office
We enjoy hands on experimenting and investigating in Nursery, so it is likely that clothes will get messy, however we use aprons for painting, dough, gluing, water play etc and wet weather clothing for outdoor play in the mud and rain.
Every day the children in Nursery have a snack such as fruit, yoghurt, toast or cheese and crackers. This costs £1.00 per week which can be paid weekly on Monday or if you prefer you may pay at the beginning of each half term.
Please place snack money in an envelope labelled with your child's name and post it in the red snack box, which is by the Nursery door.
In Nursery we have P.E. once a week:
Morning Nursery - Tuesday
Afternoon Nursery - Wednesday
On P.E. days it would be helpful if children could come to school dressed in suitable clothes such as tracksuit bottoms or leggings, T.shirts and trainers. Usually P.E. will be in the hall, sometimes in trainers but often in bare feet.
We have lots of fun developing co-ordination and confidence through action songs and rhymes, balancing on benches, performing with gymnastic ribbons, playing parachute games and much more.
Our topics in this term are Spring, farm, Summer, wild animals.
We always look forward to Nursery Sports Day and our trip to Park Hall Farm.
